A Third Will 'have To Work After Retirement' |
|
(16th July 2008)
Nearly two-thirds of Britons plan to return to work after their retirement, according to new independent research.
And almost a third of those planning to carry on working after they reach retirement age will do so because of financial reasons.
Research by think-tank Future Laboratory said the emerging trend of "returnment" is a result of changing economic climate.
Speaking at Zurich's recent credit crunch conference, Michael Portillo said: "The combined impact of the rising cost of living, rising inflation, fears of recession and the constant media coverage of the credit crisis, has created insecurity for a huge number of people approaching retirement."
Zurich's own research shows that nearly three-quarters of Britons have never sought financial advice on preparing for their retirement.
And a recent poll by Nationwide showed that people think saving is less important now than it was before.
Some 26 per cent of consumers surveyed in June deemed saving for the future to be very important, compared with nearly 50 per cent in May.
