Senior Travel Insurance 'is Needed' |
|
(8th May 2008)
Deciding not to purchase senior travel insurance would be "very foolish," according to advice from the Association of British Travel Agents.
Speaking on behalf of the organisation, Sean Tipton has spoken about the importance of finding the best senior insurance deal, as well as including all information about medical history.
Mr Tipton explained: "If you have a pre-existing medical condition and you decide not to take out insurance because of the fact that its more expensive then it's very foolish because you're more likely to need it than other people."
He added that a trend of older people going on more adventurous holidays, borne out of a more affluent generation, could mean senior travel insurance is needed to cover the longer, more varied breaks.
It has been revealed in a survey by the Foreign Office that 20 per cent of those aged over 55 took risks on holiday which they would not do at home.
These figures could be seen as worrying when combined with the fact that 65 per cent of the same age group did not take out travel insurance on their last holiday.
