|
(29th July 2008)

According to the company, the average student will take almost £1,500 worth of belongings with them to university at the start of the new term and around one in ten will take more than £3,000 worth.
However, esure claims almost a quarter of parents have not considered insurance for their children's possessions and more than one in ten automatically assume they will be covered under their insurance.com" title="" target="_parent">home insurance policy.
Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure insurance.com" title="" target="_parent">home insurance, said parents should ensure they have sufficient contents cover in place to protect their child's belongings by checking whether they are included in their insurance.com" title="" target="_parent">home insurance policy or by taking out separate insurance cover.
"Not having suitable insurance in place would hit students hard in the pocket and take a real chunk out of a student loan to replace the type of gadgets and designer gear that entices thieves," he added.
In other insurance news, motorists heading abroad this summer have been urged by NFU Mutual to check that their insurance.com" title="" target="_parent">car insurance policy covers them overseas.
