House Insurance Warning Over Gardens |
|
(1st August 2008)
Homeowners are being urged to check their house insurance policy covers garden features, furniture and plants.
Defaqto is highlighting the importance of getting sufficient insurance cover as many people do not consider how much their garden is worth.
It says items such as water features, decking, garden furniture, outside lighting, gas barbecues and swing seats can be expensive to replace so it is essential they are adequately insured.
Mike Powell, consultant for general insurance at Defaqto, says: "Consumers should consider the amount of cover provided by their insurer for contents kept in the garden."
"Consumers do not always consider the true value of their garden and should take care to understand the extent of the cover on offer."
He adds that research by the firm reveals that 38 per cent of house insurance policies provide up to £500-worth of garden cover, 47 per cent between £750 and £1,000 and 15 per cent more than £1,000.
Sainsbury's Home Insurance this week warned cyclists that there is a significant risk of their bike being stolen while stored at home.
It urged cyclists to ensure their wheels are covered by their house insurance policy.
