Motorists Urged To Check Insurance

(28th July 2008)

Motorists Urged To Check Insurance Motorists heading abroad this summer have been urged to ensure that their car insurance policy covers them overseas.

NFU Mutual's Laura Wood said it is crucial that people check their car insurance before embarking on journeys abroad, as some providers set a limit on the number of days people are covered for.

"Driving on unfamiliar foreign roads can be a tricky business but it is important that you also check whether you are covered in the event of an accident or theft," she commented.

Those looking for the cheapest car insurance deals may be interested to know the company also offered guidance on how to drive safely overseas.

It recommended topping up fluids, checking the condition and pressure of tyres, ensuring paperwork is up to date and taking out Europe-wide breakdown cover.

Ian Crowder, spokesperson for AA Insurance, recently warned that comprehensive insurance in the UK will provide third-party cover in Europe.

The expert said it is "really important" that people check their insurance and car maintenance to avoid costly bills if the car needs repairing while they are away.
