Eco-shoppers Fight Inflation To Save The Environment |
|
(13th June 2008)
Consumers concerned about the environment are determined to continue buying green products, despite rising living costs and tightening budget, according to new research from Virgin Money.
The report, published today, shows 80 per cent of shoppers have made no change to their shopping budget and continue to buy environmentally-friendly food.
More than three-quarters of Brits fill their shopping baskets with at least some eco-products each week, adding £12 to the average monthly food bill.
Virgin Money spokesman Scott Mowbray said: "It's not easy being green, particularly at a time when many are feeling the pinch due to increases in the cost of outgoings such as fuel, food and other household bills."
Of the 1,000 people surveyed, 13 per cent of over-65s and 16 per cent of under-25s said they would cut back on the number of green products they buy.
The news follows an announcement earlier this year by Moneyfacts, which said many people are relying on their credit card to get by each month.
Rates and charges on most cards have increased since the start of the year and the company has urged people to shop around and pick a credit card deal that would best suit them.
