More Ethical Investments 'than Ever Before' |
|
(28th March 2008)
More people are investing ethically than ever before, according to the Ethical Investment Research Service EIRIS, which could interest those considering ethical banking.
Director of Ethical Investors Lee Coates has spoken about the news that £9 billion has been invested in ethical schemes by conscientious British consumers.
Mr Coates explained: "It indicates the increasing interest in the broader ethical, social, environmental issues amongst the public, and that more of the public are relating these issues to their finances ... Thats always been a hurdle in the past."
He added that there was a link between ethical banking and the surge in consumers looking to buy fairtrade produce as part of their daily shopping.
Figures from the EIRIS show that at the end of 2007, £8.7 billion was invested in green and ethical funds in Britain, with around 750,000 accounts.
