Green Homes Get Approval |
|
(18th March 2008)
Homeowners concerned about green issues, such as ethical banking and mortgages, may be interested in the news that they will soon have permission to make their homes more environmentally friendly.
Planning minister Caroline Flint has approved plans which will allow those with property to install equipment such as solar panels and ground source heat pumps without the need for planning permission from April 6th.
Ms Flint commented: "Technology like solar panels can make a real difference, but homeowners can be put off by the time and expense of getting planning permission."
The installation of mirogeneration equipment has been shown to reduce fuel bills, as well as helping the environment in conjunction with schemes such as green banking.
However, plans have been made between the government and the industry to ensure that equipment is quiet enough not to disrupt neighbourhoods.
Friends of the Earth recently criticised the government, saying the chancellor did not go far enough in his latest Budget to promote sustainability.
