Ethical Investment Market Grows |
|
(2nd July 2008)
The popularity of the ethical banking sector continues to grow as consumers become increasingly aware of such issues, it has been claimed.
Andy Hammerton, spokesperson for Cooperative Financial Services, said the company's research had shown that the ethical banking market has grown in size.
In 2007, ethical finance increased by 15 per cent, while overall ethical consumerism grew by nine per cent, Mr Hammerton explained.
"Consumer interest has grown in ethical issues, especially climate change. As a result more consumers are more willing to consider an ethical finance product than they were several years ago," he said.
However, consumers ought to "read up" on the information relating to products to make sure they are "suitable to their financial needs as well as their ethical needs", the expert added.
Co-operative Bank recently reported that the UK's ethical market was worth approximately £32.3 billion per year in 2007, compared to £29.7 billion a year earlier.
