Cash Machines Donate To Cancer Care |
|
(27th June 2008)
Tesco has announced that it is supporting Marie Curie Cancer Care through donations linked to activity at its cash machines.
Duncan McKinnell, operations director at Tesco Personal Finance, said that each time a customer choose to withdraw cash, check their balance or use the cash machines for their many other functions, Tesco will make a donation to the charity.
"Through this promotion we're hoping to fund over 1,500 extra hours of nursing care, at home, for people with terminal illnesses throughout the UK," he explained.
Additionally, staff and customers will be aiming to raise £2.5 million this year to mark the 60th anniversary of Marie Curie Cancer Care.
By doing "something ordinary, like using a cash machine", customers at Tesco can help the organisation offer "extraordinary care", Mr McKinnell added.
Marie Curie Cancer Care was established in the same year as the NHS 1948.
It now employs over 2,700 healthcare professionals and provides care for approximately 27,000 people.
