|
(25th June 2008)
A new report has stated that 46-year-olds have the highest total value of their personal possessions at home.
The study by More Th>n found that the average 46-year-old has £40,919 worth of things at home, even though many of those surveyed in this age group believe their possessions are only worth £28,917.
Director of the company Dowshan Humzah said: "Brits work hard enough to buy things but by not keeping track of what they own, they run the risk of being under-insured."
"Home contents policies need to be checked and updated regularly," he added.
He explained that people in the UK spend an average of £13,000 every five years on their household possessions and by not keeping their insurance policies up to date they put themselves at risk.
Confused.com recently advised holidaymakers to make sure they do not "advertise" their home to thieves when they on a trip to avoid being burgled.
