UK Home Insurance: get a good deal!

read article None of want to pay more than we have to for anything - and home insurance is definitely something that no-one wants to spend too much money on!

However, UK home insurance is a necessity, giving you financial protection in the event that a disaster (such as fire, theft or burglary) befalls it. It can mean the difference between recompense and ruin!

So while the importance of household insurance - whether it is buildings and./or contents - is not to be undermined - there are ways that you can shave money off the insurance premiums.

First of all, if your home insurance policy is coming up to its renewal date, do not automatically the quote from your existing insurer. When it comes to renewal time, most insurers know that around 70% of their clients will unquestioningly accept the quote, without even shopping around to see if they could get a better quote elsewhere.

Therefore, you won't particularly get the cheapest deal - and your complacency could have cost you tens or maybe even hundreds of pounds!

To get a good deal on your yearly home insurance, you do need to shop around - and if you have access to the internet, then you can do this quickly and easily.

There are lots of online insurance websites that have clever tools which search the insurance marketplace for the best home insurance quote for you. And it can take just a few minutes.

You simply enter your personal and household details into a form and a list of insurance policies that meet your requirements will be displayed with the premium.

You'll probably be surprised once you have done this that the premiums can vary so much. This is normal for them to vary, even though you have requested a quote on the same basis as your existing one.

Once you've got the various quotes displayed, you can 'play around' with the quote to make the premium even lower!

Things such as increasing the standard policy excess should earn you a reduction in your premium. And check that you have told them about things that could also affect the quote (positively) such as whether you have a fitted alarm (which should be NACASS approved)

Fitted locks could net you up to a 5% discount and even joining a Neighbourhood Watch scheme may make you a 1% saving.

By making small but important changes, and putting a tiny bit of effort in to it, you could reduce your annual household insurance premium quite substantially.
